General Conference Time

I don't know that I have ever blogged about our General Conference traditions. Since we had conference this last weekend I thought I should write it down! For years we have been making a tent where the children sit to watch (sometimes Dad ends up in there too). We got the idea from reading about King Benjamin in the Book of Mormon. Before he died he spoke to all his people and they pitched their tents around a tower that had been built for him to stand upon. The doors of the tents were facing the tower so all could hear his words. We pitch our tent facing the tv so we can hear the words of the prophet and the apostles during the broadcast. At some point we've had "conference cakes", games, big dinners, and other things that have come and gone. Three things remain every six months no matter what: the tent, cinnamon rolls for breakfast, and conference bingo (the kids get to mark off each square when they hear someone say the word(s) written in the square, for example, "faith").
I truly love General Conference and hope that one of these times we will actually get to Salt Lake City so the kids can be there in person.
