Naboo's Release
Our super cute Brownie troop went to a rescue center for ocean animals in Laguna Beach a few months ago. After their tour, on their own, the girls asked if they could use some of their Girl Scout cookie money and sponsor a sick sea lion. The troop sponsored a sea lion named Naboo. She was rescued weighing only about 31 pounds. Last Sunday we had the chance to go down to the beach and see 4 sea lions being released back into the ocean.
All four had been sick or injured and had gained enough strength and weight to be released into the wild. Naboo now weighs over 70 lbs. They were carried in these huge dog kennel looking things close to the ocean. When they opened the kennels, all four moved into one kennel together instead of running into the water. It was so cute! They moved the kennel even closer to the ocean and got them to head for the water.
All four of them took off into the waves and began jumping them together and playing in the water. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I was so proud of girls our girls. Instead of having a party or doing something big for themselves they helped a sick animal and gave some of the rest of their money to the earthquake victims in Haiti. What amazing young girls! In 3rd grade would you have thought to do that?
It was a really neat morning watching these sweet girls see the good their money had done. What great families they all come from and what great Brownie leaders. Here is a pic of Marin and me ready to speed off to church after watching the sea lions play in the waves.
