The Happiest Place in Earth

Most of you know I'm a bit of a Disney freak. I love it all- movies, theme parks, characters, shows, parades, even the Main Street Barbershop quartet. I picked up a book at Barnes and Noble last week called "Little-Known Facts About Well Known Places: Disneyland". I have had so much fun reading it. Some things I knew already- opening day was so hot that ladies high heels were sinking into the pavement on Main Street. Some things are new and so interesting- 78 Million pairs of Mickey Mouse ears have been sold in the park from opening day until the 50th anniversary of the park in 2005 (that is enough ears for every child in America under the age of 18). I also found out- the Disneyland band was to play for a 2 week engagement and was so popular they are still there everyday, and the most unusual souvenir ever offered by the park was to have a personalized tombstone placed in the graveyard at the Haunted Mansion. It sold at auction for $37,400! The money was donated to charity.

Last week Grace and I spent a few hours at Disneyland. I could honestly go there every week if I had time. She loves the Tea Cups (did you know the plain purple on spins the fastest?) Grace loves the idea of the carousel, but hates when it starts moving! We had lots of fun especially on Small World. They updated it recently and it is so cool. The boats are new and throughout the ride are Disney movie characters- Cinderella in France, Alice in England, Aladdin and Jasmine in the Middle East, etc. They even finally added the United States just before the ending and Jessie and Woody are in the wild west. It is fun to find all the characters! I love taking her for our one on one time of fun. Her favorite attraction? The Tiki Room cuz all the birds sing words and the flowers croon :)
